Sun names Intuit chief to board

Sun Microsystems taps Stephen Bennett to join its board based on his experience developing "growing and diverse businesses."

Sun Microsystems said Tuesday that it named Stephen Bennett, chief executive of financial software maker Intuit, to its board of directors. Sun CEO Scott McNealy said the appointment, which takes effect immediately, was based largely on Bennett's experience developing "growing and diverse businesses." Bennett has run Intuit since 2000 and previously worked as an executive for General Electric.

The last time Sun named additional board members was almost two years ago, when the company asked Lynn Turner, former chief accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Michael Lehman, Sun's former chief financial officer, to join the corporate oversight body. Also serving on Sun's board are McNealy, James Barksdale, L. John Doerr, Robert Fisher, Robert Long, M. Kenneth Oshman and Naomi Seligman.
