If you're looking for headphones, this may be your chance to snatch up a new pair.

Amazon/CNET

Sure, headphones are fabulous when you want to listen to music or podcasts, but they also come in handy when you want to listen to ... nothing. The noise-canceling feature on a good pair of headphones is invaluable when you're on a loud airplane or working in a noisy coffeehouse. Three generations of Sony noise-canceling wireless headphones are now marked down as part of Amazon's October Prime Day sale.

If money isn't an object, consider Sony's flagship model, the WH-1000XM6 wireless noise-canceling headphones, now selling for a record-low price of $428, marked down from $450. This is the pair that received a CNET Editors' Choice award in May of 2025 and sits at the top of our reviewers' list, making it CNET's current pick for best overall wireless noise-canceling headphone.

They're available in black, midnight blue, or platinum silver and feature 30 hours of battery life. CNET executive editor David Carnoy called them "the new noise-canceling king" and noted that this pair of headphones is "at the top of its class." His primary concern was the high price, and while it's still not cheap, it's a little bit lower now, if a splurge is something your wallet can handle.

If you want to spend a little less, consider the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. Right now, they're priced at $250, down from $300. They also come with a 30-hour battery, and are available in black, midnight blue, smoky pink and silver.

And if you're looking for an exceptional deal, you can save even more money if you buy the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones. They're now selling for $188, down from $348 -- a 46% savings. That's less than $200 for headphones that usually cost nearly $350.

Why this deal matters

It's rare to find a top-ranked product like these headphones marked down. Companies know when they've got a highly-rated product and don't need to lower the price to attract buyers. But in this case, three generations of Sony headphones, including CNET's overall top-ranked wireless noise-canceling headphones, are all marked down to varying amounts. So if headphones are on your gift list -- even if it's a gift for yourself -- it's time to listen up.
