CNET/Amazon

Right now, you can get the Ring battery Doorbell for $60 at Amazon, which is a solid 40% off its regular $100 price. We've been tracking the price on this across major retailers, and this $60 offer represents a return to Prime day lows we saw last year. But we don't expect this deal to last long.

If your front door still relies on a basic bell -- or, worse, a knock -- today's the day to add some much-needed smarts to your home.

The Ring Battery Doorbell is down to $60 in both satin nickel and venetian bronze color options which is a return to the record-low price we saw during last year's Prime Day sales. Satin nickel is the classic Ring doorbell color, while the venetian bronze adds a little personality to your porch.

While this base-level Ring doorbell doesn't quite compete with the upgraded Plus or Pro version in terms of specs, CNET's resident smart home expert Tyler Lacoma called it a "very competent" option in his list of the best Ring video doorbells, thanks to its HD video and competitive field of view. Affordability is also a huge point in its favor -- especially today -- and head-to-toe video, two-way talk, motion alerts and package detection round out the feature set (some requiring a Ring Protect plan).

Why this deal matters

Ring cameras go on sale periodically throughout the year, but today's prices match Prime Day levels, which is rare outside of those major shopping events. In addition to a low price, the battery-powered doorbell offers a no-fuss installation and a solid set of features for most homes.
