There's no shortage of good handheld consoles these days, with even more on the way through 2025. They're perfect for passing the time away from home or getting comfy in bed while playing. And while playing games away from your TV isn't cheap, right now Best Buy is at least helping to make it more affordable. That's because you can get the Asus ROG Ally with a 7-inch display and the upgraded AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor for just $450 right now.

That's the lowest price that we've seen for this particular model and it even comes with a carry case worth $40 for free and a month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate included. On top of that, you'll get a 60-day trial to the Crunchyroll streaming service, too.

The Asus ROG Ally has generated varied but overall positive opinions from some of the gamers on CNET's staff. Former CNET Editorial director Dan Ackerman, who reviewed the original Asus ROG Ally in 2023, praised its high-res screen, lightweight design and easy access to your games with Windows 11.

Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.

This ROG Ally 7 model has that punchy Rizen Z1 Extreme processor as well as 512GB of storage and a 120Hz, 1080p screen, so it's no slouch. However, the lower price tag makes it much more compelling. At this price, you're getting the Rizen Z1 Extreme for the same price as the standard Rizen Z1 version. I like the idea of a device that can handle Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streaming or GeForce Now and still play those "almost AAA games." It's also a strong pick to be your go-to emulator, as emulation and streaming won't tax the ROG Ally much.

The newer model, the Asus ROG Ally X, is superior in almost every way, and we would recommend it if the Ally 7 were at full price, but it's not.

Why this deal matters

The Asus ROG Ally is an excellent handheld console, offering an amazing experience on the go. While it's certainly a pricey device at full price -- especially this upgraded version -- saving money on it makes a big difference, and it's significantly cheaper than the Ally X right now.
