Xbox Wireless Controller in Pulse Cipher finish
Xbox/CNET

Whether you're going with the official Microsoft brand or a third-party alternative, choosing a good Xbox controller can make or break your gaming experience. It's not only about performance. The days of boring black or white controllers are long gone, and most of us want one that looks cool as well as being a joy to play with.

Microsoft makes some of the most visually appealing controllers available today, and it's at it again -- the new Pulse Cipher controller is a lovely transparent red and it's available for preorder right now. Even better, you can already get yours with a discount if you order soon. Amazon is offering the new controller for just $64, but we can't promise how long it will stay that way.

It isn't every day that we see a deal on a product that isn't even on sale yet, let alone something as cool as a unique controller. You don't need to do anything special to get this discount -- there are no codes or coupons here -- so all you need to do is get your order in. Amazon says the controller will go on sale Feb. 4.

Around the back of the controller, you'll find red, rubberized grips. A metallic red D-pad sits up front to complete the raucous red look. Beyond the color, this is the same Xbox controller that you're already familiar with (and which Amazon offers for as little as $44 in less visually arresting colors). You'll get up to 40 hours of playtime per charge, and the controller uses Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth technologies, so you can use it with your computer as well as your Xbox. It'll even work with your phone and tablet if you want.
