Peloton

Peloton is issuing a voluntary recall for the Original Peloton Bike Plus due to a faulty seat post that can break, posing a risk of fall and injury.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission report, three Peloton members reported that the seat post detached and broke from their Peloton Bike Plus while in use. This included two reports of injuries due to a fall.

The fitness giant urges members who own the Peloton Original Series Bike Plus, manufactured between December 2019 and July 2022, to stop using the bikes, effective immediately.

Members should check the label on their bike for model number PL02 and serial numbers starting with the letter “T,” as these are the specific units affected. If you need further assistance locating the serial number on your unit, you can follow the instructions on Peloton’s site

Although Peloton has received only three reports of this issue out of the 833,000 units sold in the US, the company is offering free repairs to all members who own the Original Series Bike Plus. This includes a free seat post that they can install themselves.

“The integrity of our products and our members’ well-being are our top priorities, and we are taking this opportunity to make replacement seat posts available to all affected Bike Plus users,” a Peloton spokesperson told CNET.

Peloton recently revamped its entire line of fitness equipment with the Cross-Training series, which includes a new Bike Plus, Tread Plus and Row Plus. These are intended to replace former Peloton exercise equipment, which are no longer in production.

If you own the Cross-Training Bike Plus, it’s not affected by this recall.

Peloton reassures CNET that there shouldn’t be any concern with the newest seat post and says, “Our replacement seat post is the CPSC-approved remedy, and is also included in our new Cross-Training Series Bike Plus.”

The updated seat post has a fail-safe mechanism that can’t be detached from the post in the event of a break, reducing the chances of an injury occurring.

“We feel confident about the quality of our redesigned seat post and are also committed to continuously innovating on our product quality and designs,” Peloton adds.

If you own one of the affected bikes and would like to request a replacement seat post, you can do so on the Peloton website or contact member support toll-free at 833-821-0099 from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. ET, 7 days a week.
