You don't realize how essential a bidet is until you've used one for a while and suddenly find yourself somewhere without it. If your hand were dirty, you wouldn't just wipe it; you'd wash it, so why not do the same for your privates?Â
My introduction to home bidets came during the early days of Covid-19, when toilet paper was scarce on store shelves. The Coway Bidetmega 150, an entry-level model, got the job done adequately (no longer available). But the new Bidetmega 500S builds on that foundation, offering everything the 150 did with a few upgrades. So when I got the opportunity to test the Bidetmega 500, how could I -- or my butt -- say no?

Coway Bidetmega 500s features
The $555 Coway Bidetmega 500S has thoughtful features that enhance comfort, hygiene and convenience. It includes what the brand calls Triple Hygiene Care: a built-in deodorizer, stainless steel nozzles and a UV cleaning system that activates automatically after every 10 flushes but can also be manually run, keeping things fresh and sanitary.Â
A dimmable nightlight makes late-night trips easier, and the seat is lightweight and easy to remove for cleaning. Comfort features like a heated seat for colder days, temperature control for water and pressure settings and two customizable user profiles elevate the overall experience.Â
The adjustable spray nozzle provides targeted rinsing for both the front and back, making it especially helpful for kids still learning proper cleanup. The auto-close lid gives it a hands-free feel (so no more arguments about leaving the seat up). You can also open the lid with a button on the remote. The remote runs on two AAA batteries, controls all the functions and can be kept handy or mounted on the wall using the included adhesive strip or screw mount.Â
It works smoothly right from its wall mount, so you don't need to hold or point it to get a response. Small chimes from the seat let you know it's about to start. It features a wide range of buttons with multiple functions, like Turbo Rinse mode for a more powerful undercarriage clean. If the remote isn't within reach, there are four physical buttons on the right side of the seat: one for power, one for the nightlight, one for nozzle cleaning and one for activating the rear wash.
Coway Bidetmega 500s specs
The seat is primarily made from polypropylene plastic and offers good comfort. It's available in round (15.3 by 5.3 by 19.5 inches, weighing 8.5 pounds or 3.9 kilograms) and elongated (15.3 by 5.3 by 20.9 inches, weighing 8.8 pounds or 4 kilograms) sizes, designed to fit comfortably on most standard toilet bowls. Be sure you measure your current setup before purchasing.Â
This bidet only comes in white.
My experience with the Coway Bidetmega 500s
I've been using it for several months now, and besides the occasional wipe-down of the seat's exterior, it's been completely maintenance-free. I'd also point out that for those of us who stand and go, the target area is a bit smaller because of the seat's internal components.
With Eco Mode and reduced toilet paper use, the Bidetmega 500S offers a more innovative, cleaner and efficient way to upgrade your bathroom routine and save some change in the process.
