Brooklyn Bedding makes some of our favorite high-value mattresses, like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and Aurora Luxe. The new Copperflex and Copperflex Pro mattresses are comfortable, versatile and supportive options at a very budget-friendly price, and they have already made a few of our best lists.

For someone looking for an affordable, firm mattress that includes cooling features, the Copperflex Pro is a fantastic choice at a relatively affordable price.

First impressions of the Copperflex Pro mattress

After unboxing the Copperflex Pro, we noticed that it has the same type of “GlacioTex” cooling cover found on many Brooklyn Bedding mattresses, like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe. This cover is very desirable for hot sleepers and is the key difference between the Copperflex Pro model and the base model Copperflex.

I had expected the Copperflex Pro to be softer than the base model because that is a common practice from several mattress brands -- where it makes the upgraded model softer and more plush than the base model -- but that wasn’t initially apparent out of the box.

I actually prefer the look of the base model Copperflex because the cover matches the rest of the mattress more than the GlacioTex cover on the Pro -- but the way a mattress looks doesn’t matter too much once you put your bedding on it.

Is the Copperflex Pro mattress right for you?

Anyone looking for a firm, supportive memory foam mattress with cooling features should strongly consider the Copperflex Pro. The cooling features are probably the most important factor in deciding between the Copperflex Pro and the standard Copperflex, because that is the key difference between the models.

There aren’t many beds out there with this many features and this level of targeted support at such a low price. Because of this, I think the Copperflex Pro is an excellent mattress.

Copperflex Pro mattress firmness and feel

Copperflex Pro feel

The Copperflex Pro feel is a straightforward dense memory foam. You get the prototypical sink-in, body-conforming sensation, which feels quite dense. Slow responsiveness means that it will take the mattress time to return to its original shape once removing weight or pressure -- a common characteristic of memory foam. The top layers of memory foam on the Copperflex Pro are very slow to respond.

Because of the firmness profile of the Copperflex Pro, you don’t sink into the bed all that much, so if you really dislike the feel of memory foam, you might be able to get by, but it probably won’t be your favorite bed. The biggest thing is that you will definitely feel the density of the foams even if you don’t sink into them that much.

This feel is virtually identical to the feel on the standard Copperflex, and if it weren’t for being able to feel the cooling cover, I don’t think I would be able to tell them apart.

Copperflex Pro firmness and sleeper types

The Copperflex mattresses are all quite firm. There are four different versions of Copperflex, and we tested all four. There is the base model, just called Copperflex, with a foam version and a hybrid version, and there is also the Copperflex Pro, with a foam version and a hybrid version.

I expected the Copperflex Pro models to be noticeably softer than the base models of Copperflex. This is because brands will regularly make their “upgraded” mattress softer by featuring more material, but that is not what we found.

Our Mattress Smasher 9000 firmness testing device gave the foam and hybrid models of the Copperflex a 7.8 out of 10 and the Copperflex Pro foam and hybrid models a 7.9 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest.

We did not expect the base model Copperflex to have a virtually identical firmness profile, but Brooklyn Bedding seems to have designed these beds to be very supportive and geared toward back and stomach sleepers more than side sleepers.

Copperflex Pro mattress construction

The construction of the Copperflex Pro will vary depending on which version you choose. The foam model begins with a thick layer of dense support foam, and in the hybrid model, this foam layer is replaced with encased coils.

This is the only construction difference between the foam and hybrid models, and the comfort foams above the support layer are identical.

Above the support layer is a “Variflex” transition foam, a firm, responsive foam that provides a buffer between the support layer and the top comfort layers.

Also, above the transition layer is a lumbar support foam layer, which gives the Copperflex Pro mattress a zone support design. Above the lumbar layer are two distinct layers of memory foam, including a copper-infused memory foam, from which the bed gets its name.

And then the topmost layer is a quilted cover with some additional foam and that GlacioTex cooling material.

On Brooklyn Bedding’s website, it says the base model Copperflex is roughly 12 inches in height, and the Pro is 14 inches in height. I measure the base model at 13 inches and the Pro at 13.5 inches, so in reality, the difference is very insignificant.

Copperflex Pro zone support

One of the key features of the Copperflex Pro mattress is the lumbar support layer. Many beds we have tested feature some kind of targeted, zone support design, but most of the time, it's not something that can be felt that strongly.

On the Copperflex and Copperflex Pro, though, you can really feel the support in your lumbar area, and because of this, we think any of the Copperflex mattresses would be a great pick for someone with back pain.

In fact, we recently had someone in our office test our beds. He chose the base model Copperflex for this reason, and he says it has helped him with his back issues.

Copperflex Pro mattress performance

Edge support

Beds with poor edge support make you feel like you’re going to roll off the mattress near the outer edge, and it is easy to sleep near the perimeter of the edge if you are sharing a bed with a partner or pets.

During testing, we found the edge support on the Copperflex Pro to be solid but even better on the hybrid. Regardless of which one you choose, I think edge support will not be an issue, but if you want the best edge support, the hybrid is the better choice.

Motion isolation

Motion isolation refers to how well the bed deadens the impact of movement on the mattress. If you are a light sleeper who shares a mattress with someone who tosses and turns a lot, having good motion isolation is especially important.

This is a very similar story to edge support, where the foam version is slightly better than the hybrid version at absorbing the impacts of tossing and turning, but both perform well. The foam model is the better choice for light sleepers, but I don’t see it being a problem on the hybrid for most sleepers.

Temperature regulation

One of the reported benefits of using copper-infused foam is improved temperature regulation. We haven’t observed this with other beds that feature copper-infused foam like Layla, but thanks to the GlacioTex cooling cover on the Copperflex Pro, it will be excellent for helping you keep cool.

This type of cover is the same we see on some of our favorite beds for hot sleepers, like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe and the Helix Elite lineup, and I think the Copperflex Pro will have a similar level of performance.

Again, this is a key distinction between the Copperflex Pro and the more affordable base model.

Copperflex Pro (foam) mattress pricing

Size Measurements (inches)Price
Twin 38x75$732
Twin XL 38x80$832
Full 54x75$932
Queen 60x80$1,065
King 76x80$1,332
Cal king 72x84$1,332

The Copperflex Pro's price is quite a bit higher than that of the base model Copperflex, but it is still a great value based on its quality and the number of features it has. Most beds with cooling covers and zoned support are priced higher than the Copperflex Pro.

The Copperflex Pro will also be regularly discounted and can usually be had for less than $1,000 for a king-size and less than $800 for a queen-size.

Brooklyn Bedding mattress policies

Free shipping

Like most online mattresses, the Copperflex Pro will ship right to your door at no extra cost inside a large box (as long as you live in the continuous US). If you live in Canada, you can still have it shipped, but there will be an additional cost depending on where you live.

Unboxing a mattress usually only takes a few minutes, and we recommend unboxing it with a friend to make the process go more smoothly.

I have unboxed many beds by myself, and while it's doable, it is much more difficult.

120-night trial

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a slightly longer-than-average trial period of 120 nights, compared to the usual standard of 100 nights. So, you have roughly four months to sleep on it at home to determine if you like the mattress and if it suits your needs.

Keep in mind that it can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. The trial period begins the day the mattress is delivered, not when you actually start sleeping on it.

Return policy

You can return the Copperflex mattress and get a refund within the 120-night trial period. There is no upfront fee to initiate a return; however, they will deduct $99 from your refund, which helps facilitate the mattress pickup process

Like most brands, Brooklyn Bedding will ask you to sleep on the bed for at least 30 nights before initiating a return because no matter how nice and well-suited your new mattress is to your sleep type, your body needs a bit of time to adjust to it.

Warranty

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are backed by a standard 10-year warranty. This is the minimum duration of warranty you should expect for almost every mattress.

How does the Copperflex Pro mattress compare to similar models?

Copperflex Pro vs. Bear Pro Hybrid

The Bear Pro Hybrid is another firm, memory foam mattress option that is available at an affordable price. The Bear Pro Hybrid uses coils by default. It doesn’t have a foam option -- and instead of a cooling cover, there is an optional celliant cover that has some benefits for people who lead an athletic lifestyle.

The Copperflex Pro and the Bear Pro have a similar feel and firmness profile, but I think the Copperflex Pro is the slightly better value thanks to its lumbar support layer and cooling cover at no extra cost.

Copperflex Pro vs. Leesa Studio Chill Hybrid

The Leesa Studio Chill Hybrid is one of my personal favorite affordable hybrid beds. Aside from being affordable and having cooling covers, there’s not all that much in common between these beds. The Studio Chill Hybrid is much softer than the Copperflex Pro and will be more accommodating for side sleepers, and it has a more neutral feel that doesn’t feel as dense as the Copperflex Pro.

The Studio Chill Hybrid does have a cooling factor, but it isn't nearly as strong as the Copperflex Pro, so hot sleepers will probably prefer the latter.

Final thoughts on the Copperflex Pro mattress

For anyone seeking a firm mattress, there might not be a better option on the market than the Copperflex Pro for the price. This is an excellent mattress with great features and might help sleepers with back pain thanks to its lumbar support layer. The only caveat to this is that the base model Copperflex is more affordable and the only thing you are getting from the Pro model is that cooling cover. So, if you don’t sleep hot, the base model Copperflex makes more sense -- but the GlacioTex cover on the Pro is very nice and will help you sleep cooler.

profile of the copperflex mattress
Dillon Payne/CNET

I am very impressed with Copperflex as a whole, and I think Brooklyn Bedding really nailed it with both models. I'm sure they will feature prominently on our mattress best lists for years to come.

You might like the Copperflex Pro mattress if:

  • You want a memory foam feel
  • You enjoy a firm mattress
  • You want lumbar support
  • You are shopping on a budget
  • You want cooling features

You might not like the Copperflex Pro mattress if:

  • You dislike memory foam
  • You want a soft mattress

Other mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: This mattress is a more luxurious option from Brooklyn Bedding. It comes with multiple firmness options, uses responsive, neutral foams and has a very accommodating feel. The Aurora Luxe does include extra foam material underneath the cover, and the cover is cooling by default and has a strong cooling factor, which makes it one of our top picks for hot sleepers looking for the best cooling mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite: This is Brooklyn Bedding's most high-end and luxurious mattress, and it has a unique construction element called micro coils. These tiny coils provide extra support and bounce but are also body-conforming. Our team has observed micro coils giving off a memory foam-type feel that conforms to your body, but without the slow-to-respond quality memory foam usually has.

Brooklyn Bedding Essential: Brooklyn Bedding's Essential mattress is its most basic hybrid bed. It features coils and responsive foams to create an accommodating, responsive feel that most will find comfortable. It is only slightly firmer than a medium, which means it should work pretty well for all sleeper types. It is more expensive than the Copperflex, but not by much, and it is a coil bed by default.
