Score Breakdown
Pros and Cons
We're constantly testing new mattresses here at CNET Home, and to be frank, many of them are quite similar -- some even lackluster. That's why testing a mattress like the Amelia by Nuream is always so refreshing. It's the top-of-the-line bed the brand currently offers, and it's entirely focused on providing restful and restorative sleep for people leading healthier lifestyles.
In this review, I'll break down this mattress in as much detail as I can. We'll go over the main things that you probably want to know about the bed, like how it feels, how firm it is and what exactly it's made of. Towards the end, I'll even determine who we see this mattress ultimately working best for.

First impressions of the Amelia mattress
Like many other online options, this mattress arrived at our space with free bed-in-a-box shipping. The setup process was super easy. All we did was drag the box into our space and tear away all the cardboard and plastic. Then, Amelia by Nuream started to take shape before our eyes. Since the bed has some slower-to-respond materials like memory foam, it took around a full night to fully expand, but it seemed ready to be slept on right out of the box.
Post-unboxing, you could immediately tell this was a more luxurious style of pillow top bed. Its organic cotton exterior, thick box top and overall premium vibe definitely made it seem like a comfortable bed -- which was further proved when I hopped on. It's just one of those beds that anyone would find super cozy.
Nuream Amelia mattress firmness and feel
What does the Nuream Amelia mattress feel like?
When I laid down on this mattress, I immediately thought it had an accommodating pillow top feel. Similar to other pillow top beds online, like the Saatva Classic or the WinkBed, this bed presents a generally accommodating level of comfort that should work for just about anyone. Even though the bed does contain memory foam for comfort, it just adds a bit of pressure relief to the sleeping surface -- it definitely doesn't have a viscous, sink-in quality like a Tempur-Pedic mattress.
While its feel is accommodating, it is also rather nuanced. Since it uses a combination of responsive and pressure-relieving materials, I thought it felt a bit more mixed than your standard pillow top mattress. You get somewhat of a sink-in quality coupled with an immediate level of responsiveness from its coils and latex foam -- that might sound weird at first, but trust me, it's nice.
How firm is the Nuream Amelia mattress?
The Amelia by Nuream is available in two different firmness renditions. The Luxury Firm model is the one that we've primarily tested, and we observed it to be right around a true medium, give or take. This neutral firmness level makes it a viable option for all sleeper types. It's supportive enough to handle back and stomach sleeping while also providing enough pressure relief for the hips and shoulders of strict side sleepers. If you're a side sleeper in the market for something softer than a medium, I'd recommend checking out the Plush Soft version -- sometimes, a medium just isn't soft enough.
For years, we've ranked mattress firmness from a subjective perspective, but we now have a machine called the Mattress Smasher 9000 that objectively tests how soft or firm a mattress is. After pressing into the bed with a precise pressure gauge, it gave the Amelia mattress a score of 5.5 out of 10 -- it's nice when a giant bed robot agrees with your opinion on a bed's firmness.
Nuream Amelia mattress construction
This is a premium hybrid bed that has a combination of coils for support and various foams for comfort. It's proudly made in the USA and constructed of the following materials:
- On the bottom, it starts with the bed's main support system of individually wrapped coils. These coils are even reinforced along the edges to provide the bed with a sturdy perimeter.
- Then, you've got a responsive transition foam above the coils, so you don't feel them as much.
- Next is a layer of micro coils to act as another support layer and add some pressure relief to the bed.
- Then, the bed has a memory foam layer to give the bed some more pressure relief towards the actual sleeping surface.
- Above that, you've got a latex foam and a couple more comfort layers that make up the bed's box pillow top.
- Pulling everything together is an organic cotton cover that's also naturally hypoallergenic -- good news for sleepers with chronic allergies at night.
Nuream Amelia mattress performance
Motion isolation
We'd say this mattress deadens a decent amount of cross-mattress movement. Since the coils are wrapped and individually siloed, they do help the mattress transfer less motion from side to side, but not as much as something like a dense memory foam option. Suppose motion isolation is a top priority when it comes to you or your partner's next bed. In that case, I'd definitely consider a memory foam mattress -- those usually perform the best in this regard.
Edge-to-edge support
This mattress does feature reinforced coils along the edges and does seem to have a very sturdy perimeter. Based on our testing, we found this bed to have really strong edges that don't overly sag under pressure. If you tend to sleep close to the edges of a mattress at night, this mattress should be able to support you along its outer rims -- and it goes without saying, no one should be falling off anytime soon.
Temperature
Even though Nuream as a brand advertises the Amelia mattress to sleep especially cool, we didn't notice much, if any, of a cooling effect in the bed. That said, the bed's high-quality design should go a long way toward helping you stay temperature-neutral on it at night. If you are looking for a mattress to help keep you and your partner sleeping cool, you can always check out our best cooling mattress for hot sleepers list.
Durability
Since this is a premium pillow top bed that technically has two layers of coils for support, we'd say that it should prove to be more durable than your standard, all-foam mattress found online. Its steel coils should provide lots of support and durability for all body types: small, medium and even larger people. If you're a much heavier person who's upwards of 300 pounds, you may require more of an ultra-durable style of hybrid bed. In that case, feel free to check out our Best Beds for Heavy People list.
Who is the Nuream Amelia mattress best for?
While anyone could get by sleeping on this mattress, the Amelia by Nuream will most likely appeal to a select group of sleepers. Here's who we think will get the most out of it.
Sleeping position
In regards to the Luxury Firm version, it's around a medium, so the bed could work for a pretty wide variety of sleeper types out there. It provides ample support and pushback for back and stomach sleepers, but it's also not firm enough to alienate side sleepers. Since it offers the best of both worlds comfort-wise, it's generally accommodating for just about anyone.
The problem with generally comfortable beds is that while they could work for everyone, they're not the best at accommodating specific preferences. If you're looking for a truly soft version for strict side sleepers, this bed is available in a softer profile, but as far as a super firm bed for strict back sleepers, this isn't exactly your best choice. Luckily, we've hand-selected some great options for back sleepers if you're in the market for something much firmer.
Body type
As mentioned, the construction of this bed makes it best at supporting all body types, including heavier people. If you're an average-sized person or even someone who's on the smaller side, you should too find it supportive, but you could save a lot more money by going the route of an all-foam bed -- that's especially the case for this option.
Nuream Amelia mattress pricing
| Size | Measurements (inches) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | 38x75 inches | $1,799 |
| Twin XL | 38x80 inches | $1,899 |
| Full | 54x75 inches | $2,899 |
| Queen | 60x80 inches | $2,999 |
| King | 76x80 inches | $3,599 |
| Cal King | 72x84 inches | $3,599 |
Given that this is Nuream's top-tier offering, it's naturally going to come with the biggest price tag. A queen-sized Amelia mattress is currently priced at around $3,000 -- that's quite the sticker shock. Keep in mind, though, that you get what you pay for with online beds. It's a well-constructed, premium mattress that'll likely last most people for many years to come. While this pricing may seem egregious at first glance, I'd say it's reasonable, given the bed's overall level of quality.
Trial, shipping and warranty
Nuream backs its Amelia mattress with some nice policies. Its beds ship to you for completely free, and once in your possession, you get a 120-night trial period to try them at home risk-free. If you happen not to like your Wolf mattress within that time frame, you can return it for free. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you're backed by a 20-year warranty.
How does the Nuream Amelia mattress compare to other mattresses?
Nuream Amelia vs. Saatva Classic
These are two high-end pillow top mattresses from reputable online brands. Both feature a generally accommodating pillow top feel as well as a dual-coil construction. The Saatva Classic, however, ships with complimentary white glove delivery and in-home setup. It's also available in a few more firmness profiles, which makes it a bit more targeted for certain sleeper types. Saatva also backs its beds with a lifetime warranty and a 365-night trial period. When it comes to pricing, the Amelia mattress is clearly the more expensive option.
Nuream Amelia vs. The WinkBed
Like the Saatva Classic, the WinkBed is similar to the Amelia mattress in that it's a more luxurious pillow-top offering. Both are made in the USA, they ship to you for free in a box and are backed by a generous policy set. The WinkBed is available in four different firmnesses, including a Plus version to support much heavier individuals. If your decision between the two comes down to budget, a queen-sized WinkBed mattress is around half the price of the Amelia by Nuream.
The final verdict
Nuream's most luxurious mattress offering definitely looks and plays the part of a high-end online bed. If you're in the market for a more sustainably sourced option with a neutral firmness and feel that's supportive enough to handle all body types, I'd definitely consider it, just so long as you can afford it -- the one deterrent for me is its price.
You might like the Nuream Amelia mattress if:
- You want a supportive hybrid mattress
- You want a bed that's available in two firmnesses
- You want bed a sustainably sourced option
- You're willing to spend up for something nice
You might not like the Nuream Amelia mattress if:
- You're looking for an all-foam mattress
- You prefer the feel of a dense memory foam mattress
- You want a firmer mattress for back and stomach sleeping
- You're looking for a more affordable mattress
