Even with a discount, the Cybertruck still costs over $70,000.

Tesla is offering discounts on its Cybertruck electric vehicle following a report that production has slowed at Tesla's factory. The latest model Cybertrucks feature price cuts of up to $1,600, bringing the total to $72,890, with as much as $3,410 off for demo units (for a total of $74,030), as listed on its website.

The news comes as the EV landscape is shifting, with Tesla facing competition from legacy automakers like Ford and newer players like Rivian and Lucid, amid price wars and slowing demand. Meanwhile, Business Insider reported last week that some workers were reassigned from the Cybertruck assembly line in Texas to focus on the company's bestselling Model Y sedan.

The Cybertruck has faced ongoing criticism since its 2023 launch, from its polarizing design to issues with its stainless steel finish, which has been prone to rusting and spotting. In December, the 2024 Cybertruck was also part of a 70,000-vehicle recall related to its tire pressure-monitoring system -- the seventh recall for the sharp-angled electric pickup.

Although CEO Elon Musk originally touted a $40,000 starting price, the Cybertruck currently sells for nearly double that.
