If Dyson's $8 million investment into a robotics research lab at Imperial College London, $420 million R&D build-out in the UK, and foray into robot vacuums and humidifiers weren't enough of an indication, 2014 has been a busy year for the luxury small-appliance brand.
And now, it's upping the ante even more with a whopping $1.56 billion (£1 billion) investment slated for "future technology." Dyson isn't sharing any specifics on what future tech it plans to add to its current lineup of vacuums, fans, heaters and other high-end home appliances. But it did say that 100 new products will be coming out in four new categories over the next four years -- some of which will be for outdoor use; a robot lawn mower , perhaps?
Dyson has also announced that work has just begun on the $420 million (£250 million) headquarters expansion, which is expected to add as many as 3,000 new jobs in the areas of noise-canceling technology, digital motors and more. It has also promised $78 million (£50 million) to top universities in the UK over the next four years to further other research goals.
