About 5.1 million Amazon Echo units have been sold since its release in November 2014 -- including about 2 million so far this year -- according to a recent report from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).
The rise in sales comes alongside increased customer awareness of the device. Nearly 70 percent of customers now know about Echo, according to CIRP. Compare that to the first full quarter after its release when only 20 percent knew anything about the gadget.
The device benefits from Amazon's heavy promotion on its website, CIRP said in its report released last week. In addition, Amazon's bundle deals and $50 price tag for the make for a more palatable entry point for many consumers.
Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment.
