I own two cats, and I also happen to be pretty allergic to them. For the most part, it's fine: I vacuum often, brush them every few days and keep them out of the bedroom as much as possible. But I recently rescued a Ragdoll with long hair and heavy shedding, and my usual cleaning routine just stopped working. I started having coughing fits, couldn't breathe through my nose and was waking up every few hours, gasping for air.
The culprits.
Then I got an air purifier, and everything changed.
Turns out the missing piece wasn't more cleaning or stricter bedroom rules. It was the EyeVac Air Purifier and Touchless Vacuum, a strange little hybrid device that resembles a small trash bin but is actually two machines in one: a HEPA-grade air purifier at the top and a touchless vacuum at the base. While a vacuum can pick up the hair you see, an air purifier is the only thing that can remove the tiny particles floating in the air, the ones that actually trigger allergies.
And right now, the EyeVac Air 2-in-1 HEPA Air Purifier and Touchless Vacuum is $189 on Amazon for Black Friday, or 24% off the regular price of $249.
The purifier uses a three-part filter: one catches larger dust and hair, one traps tiny allergy-causing particles and the last one helps reduce odors. The manufacturer estimates the filters last around 3,000 hours (roughly 6 to 8 months of regular use) before the red indicator light tells you it's time to swap them out.
The prefilter can be cleaned more often, every few weeks if you have heavy shedding. Replacing the main filter is easy -- you can just twist it out, drop the new one in and you're done. I check mine every month and clean it whenever it starts to look gray or clogged.
The EyeVac Air comes in four colors.
The vacuum bin is honestly my favorite part. Because of the touchless infrared sensors, it sucks up fur, litter dust and whatever debris I sweep toward it automatically. I don't bend down, touch anything or aim perfectly -- if it's near the opening, it's gone. I usually empty the bin about once a week, which is dramatically easier than dragging out a full vacuum every time my cats go feral on the shedding.
According to the manufacturer, the EyeVac purifier covers up to 600 square feet, which is more than enough for a bedroom or a small to mid-size living room. In my one-bedroom apartment, a single unit handles the main living area just fine. If you live in a bigger space, multiple bedrooms or an open floor plan, you might want two units.
The EyeVac Air's controls, which you can set to automatic or manual.
Within a few hours of turning on the EyeVac purifier, I could already breathe better. Within a day, I wasn't waking up congested. And within a week, my nighttime coughing stopped entirely. My apartment finally felt breathable again.
For someone who constantly cleans just to coexist with their pets, this air purifier has made my life significantly easier. I leave it running most of the day, sweep toward it once or twice and that's it.
Is the EyeVac cheap? Not really. But compared to upgrading my vacuum, trying more allergy meds or accepting restless nights, this thing has paid off fast. If you're dealing with pet allergies, long-haired cats or just a dusty apartment, the EyeVac is one of the few gadgets I've tried that made an immediate, obvious difference.
