Summer Game Fest 2025: News, Trailers and Everything Announced

And with that "one more thing" ending the trailer showcase with a bang, Summer Game Fest's kickoff trailer showcase is done -- though with more than 45 trailers, this was possibly one of the most packed showcases ever. Capcom's Resident Evil 9: Requiem continues the series' return to its horror roots, but it'll retain some of the over-the-top action of games like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. Players will take on the role of FBI agent Grace Ashcroft as she investigates a string of mysterious deaths -- and the trailer shows off a destroyed Raccoon City. Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be released on Feb. 27, 2026. 

Ryu Ga Gotoku, popularly known as RGG, has hit gold over and over with its Yakuza series of games, and it looks like it's following up the zany weirdness of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, released earlier this year, with a decidedly more serious period piece. What had been known as Project Century has been given a proper name, Stranger Than Heaven, though we don't have a release date yet.

1047 Games' Splitgate 2 is built on the DNA of Halo's gunplay, but you won't be confined to an arena while you're blasting your enemies anymore. The game's new battle royale mode lets players portal into mini arenas with different themes as they escape the encroaching storm -- during one fight you might be battling across an arctic tundra and during the next you'll be duking it out amid dangerous lava plumes. Splitgate 2's take on the battle royale genre is out now.

Ever watch Fritz the Cat? Ralph Bakshi's adult-animation fingerprints seem all over Into the Unwell, a new game with 3D action that looks distinctly like the best 2D animation. With vibes of Psychonauts mixed with the zaniness of Earthworm Jim, Into the Unwell is promisingly dark.

Players will get to pilot massive mecha suits in player-versus-player combat in Amazing Seasun's Mecha Break. Wield traditional firearms, laser blasters or melee weapons to defeat your enemies in this competitive third-person shooter. Mecha Break will be coming out July 1.

Cubit Studios' Infinitesimals shrinks players down in order to fight nasty fauna and dangerous robots called Mechanicals. You might be small, but you'll stand a fighting chance against comparatively massive foes with an array of futuristic firearms, flying vehicles and a jetpack to help you zip out of danger. Infinitesimals will be released in 2026.

Night Street Games' Last Flag is a competitive third-person shooter that aims to bring the "capture the flag" mode back to the forefront of player-versus-player gaming. Featuring a world splashed with vibrant colors and strange characters such as lumberjacks and archers, Last Flag looks like it could've been made by Valve. Last Flag will be released in 2026.

Brass Lion Entertainment's debut game features a world in which the Wu-Tang Clan has gone missing. For many people, that's not a world worth living in -- so it's a good thing that Ghostface Killah is on standby to lay the beatdown on his enemies and find his friends in this 3D hack-and-slash action-adventure game.

ILL is a first-person shooter with seriously gross combat and body horror.

Moonshot Games' WildGate is a team-based player-versus-player FPS game where you'll have to breach the enemy ship and complete an explosive sabotage job while simultaneously defending your own spacefaring vessel. Supporting 20 players in each match, teams will have to fight hard in a tug of war in the vacuum of space in order to win the game. WildGate will be released on July 24.

Blighted World is a new, cartoony-looking isometric action game with a morbid tale to tell.

Lego's got a new party game, the appropriately named Lego Party! Y'know, like Mario Party. With Lego.

As if we weren't excited enough about IO Interactive's 007 and Mindseye games, they've got a treat for Hitman World of Assassination players: a new stage and target, Le Chiffre, the villain of the incredible 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale. And even better, it's voiced by the inimitable Mads Mikkelsen! We're so blessed.

But you know who was really blessed? The attendees in the YouTube Theater who got to see him come by and hang out. Wild. 

Developer Build a Rocket Boy's MindsEye is a combat-based thriller chock full of fast cars, big guns and future tech like quad-rotor drones that will help you take out the bad guys as you uncover a deep-rooted conspiracy. This single player action-adventure game will be released on June 10.

Moving on from a cute chiptune beat-em-up to one decidedly more gruesome, Acts of Blood is a 3D beat-em-up with some serious fight choreography. Acts of Blood comes out summer 2026.

In 2026, fans of Scott Pilgrim will have a new beat-em-up to clean the streets of future Toronto. Featuring a 16-bit style, 7 playable characters, a story written by series creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and music from Anamanaguchi (who did the addictive chiptune soundtrack of the original Scott Pilgrim beat-em-up), Scott Pilgrim EX is coming next year.

Developer Brownies' game Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is a roguelike with Hades-like gameplay, except there are no Greek gods to curry favor with this time around. Instead of focusing on western mythology, Towa looks to the east for inspiration in a brand-new narrative adventure. Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree launches on Sept. 19.

Mixtape has been teased, but now we're getting a full trailer of the coming-of-age story about teens, growing up and especially music. The stop-motion-esque visual style accompanies the 80s-to-90s esque setting, full of tapes and skateboards and featuring music by era bands Joy Division, Devo, Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, and even 90s hits like Portishead and Smashing Pumpkins.

The protagonist of Dying Light, Kyle Crane, was notably absent from the sequel. After the cliffhanger ending of the first game's The Following DLC, most people assumed Crane had bit the dust.

Dying Light: The Beast is developer Techland's new spinoff, bridging the stories from the first two games -- and confirming everyone's favorite GRE agent is still kicking. You'll be able to use Harran virus powers and shiny new firearms to take on a mutated zombie threat. Dying Light: The Beast will be released on Aug. 22.

While it's not Ryan Reynolds, Neil Patrick Harris sounds like he'll do a heck of a job cracking fourth-wall-breaking jokes as players shoot, dismember and kill enemies in virtual reality. 

Did you love the retro look of The Messenger? Mina the Hollower is a new game that fits the old-school gameplay of other 8-bit revival games. Mina the Hollower comes out Oct. 31.

Yes, Jeff Goldblum is in your ears with this sweet trailer introducing us, once again, to Jurassic Park's universe -- and how you can make it better in your hands. Jurassic Evolution 3 is coming Oct. 21.

NCSoft's Blade and Soul Heroes will let players build a team of five heroes to take on epic fantasy challenges. This prequel to Blade and Soul will provide a new backstory to old characters while combining turn-based and real-time combat. Blade and Soul Heroes launches this September.

Crystal of Atlan, the action MMORPG released a week ago, already announced a crossover with One Punch Man of all things.

Geoff Keighley pitched Serenity Forge's Fractured Blooms as "Doki Doki Literature Club meets Silent Hill," and it's easy to see why. This farming simulator is hiding a dark secret beneath the surface, and players will have to unravel it while tending to their homestead.

And just like that, the Lies of P DLC isn't just real but available for players today. Lies of P: Overture adds more story, weapons and bosses to the Bloodborne-like Souls game for $30.

Developer Hangar 13's Mafia: The Old Country takes the crime series to early 1900s Sicily, where bonds of blood run deep and loyalty is the ultimate virtue. This fourth entry in the Mafia series will be released on Aug. 8.

Everyone loves a good Lego game, but Lego Voyages isn't another adaptation of a big IP -- instead, it looks to be a lovingly evocative character-focused platformer starring expressive blocks with eyes. More creativity and tilt-shift imagery, which is lovely for old Lego lovers wistful for the days before popular IP took over the brand.

OK, think more Pinocchio (especially Guillermo del Toro's recent version) than Muppets for this one. Out of Words is a new side-scrolling adventure title with a beautiful stop-motion animation style.

Chrono Odyssey looks a bit Souls-like in its taking-on-grotesque-enemies-in-melee style. It will have a playtest later this month, starting June 20.

Developer Douze Dixiemes' Mio: Memories in Orbit is a charming, watercolor-esque 2D Metroidvania releasing in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Anyone who wants a taste of the game's melee combat and platforming challenges can try a demo available now.

Arc Raiders, a new extraction shooter from Embark Studios, has been pretty exciting to play in early previews -- and soon you'll be able to play too, as the game's release date is Oct. 30. We've got more about Arc Raiders on CNET!

Among Us meets mansion mayhem gunplay carnage with Killer Inn, a new game from Tactic Studios in partnership with Square Enix. Kill or be killed in a beautiful castle-mansion.

Chrono Studio's dark fantasy game Chrono Odyssey will let players hack and slash their way through a ruined world, wielding time-based powers to freeze their enemies in place for massive damage. The game doesn't have a release date.

OK, I definitely didn't have this on my bingo card. A felt puppet boxing game, or as one of our coworkers called it, "Muppet Punch-Out," is coming called Felt That Boxing. It has an admirably pretty real-time visual style to it, making it look like Avenue Q or Greg the Bunny (if you get that reference, take some aspirin for the back pain).

The grand revival of the Onimusha franchise is upon us with another trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This got the crowd roaring for sure, even though its been over a decade since the most recent main game Onimusha Soul in 2012. Onimusha: Way of the Sword comes out in 2026.

Developer Funcom's Dune Awakening is a massively multiplayer survival MMO that takes place in an alternate universe from the books and movies. Arrakis remains just as dangerous as ever -- and sandworms aren't the only threat in the game, as players will be able to pick factions in order to go to war with one another.

The Summer Game Fest trailer showcased a whole lot of firearms, which is a bit odd for Dune, but there will be plenty of hack-and-slash melee combat as well. Funcom will release Dune Awakening on June 10 -- that's this coming Tuesday.

You're not out of the atomic-era shooting woods yet -- Mundfish Studio, the developer of Atomic Heart and the upcoming Atomic Heart 2, has another game set in its universe: The Cube, a shifting-area massively multiplayer online shooter where players roam around the outer surface of a massive block that shifts around like a Rubiks Cube. 

Atomic Heart 2, the follow-up to 2023's atompunk first-person shooter Atomic Heart, got a trailer, though no release date.

Another look at Mouse: PI For Hire, a delightful black-and-white game from Polish studio Fumi Games, which is coming later this year.

Game of Thrones strategy fans, rejoice: War for Westeros is a strategy game from Australian developer PlaySide Studios where players take the reins of four factions -- Houses Stark, Lannister or Targaryen, as well as the Night King's undead forces -- with asymmetric armies and mechanics. War for Westeros is coming in 2026.

Code Vein 2, a sequel to the 2019 game from Bandai Namco, is coming next year.

A new kart game, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, is coming Sept. 26 -- and fans in the audience howled at bonus characters Hatsune Miku, Yakuza: Like a Dragon's Ichiban Kasuga and Persona 5's Joker. Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka even showed up to throw a little shade on Mario Kart World -- at least Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will have crossplay.

Geoff Keighley kicked off The Game Awards with his buddy, Hideo Kojima, and a new look at Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which is due out at the end of June.

While the Sony State of Play had plenty of debut trailers, there's a lot of interest in what could be revealed for the first time at Summer Game Fest's opening showcase. The rumor mill has been buzzing about a potential trailer for Resident Evil 9, while the drum continues to beat for a Final Fantasy 9 remaster or remake (though with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles debuting at State of Play, that seems unlikely). And faithful fans of games like Bloodborne or the Fire Emblem series continue to be hopeful for rereleases and new entries.

We're at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles waiting for the showcase to start. Some folks have taken their seats already, but we expect this to get packed in the next 20 minutes before the event starts.

Summer Game Fest might be just getting started, but we've already had a lot of games shown off this week at the Sony's PlayStation State of Play showcase. While there was only a tease of the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, we got more looks at big-ticket games like Silent Hill f, Capcom's Pragmata and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. 

But the big news were the first reveals for Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls by Arc System Works (Guilty Gear), the James Bond origins game 007 First Light, Nioh 3 and a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, among plenty of other games debuting. Summer Game Fest will only add more to the onslaught.
