August Smart Lock brings polish to your door (pictures)

The August Smart Lock and its easy-to-install mounting hardware.

The lock is about 3.25 inches across and 2.25 inches thick.

These tiny wings fold down and secure the lock to your door via its mounting plate.

August takes four AA batteries, which are included, and the company says they will last about a year.

These adapters plug into the back of the lock  and slide over the tailpiece that goes from the keyhole through the deadbolt. The different designs match August up with locksets from different manufacturers.

The mounting plates connect the August Smart Lock to your door. The manual helps you match the right plate to the right lockset by manufacturer.

The August Smart Lock sits 2.25 inches off your door, or about as far out as a typical doorknob.

You can turn the August lock manually to open the deadbolt from inside your house.
