August's new Smart Lock cozies up to Siri (pictures)

August's second-gen Smart Lock retails for $229. Amazon can ship it internationally, but no date has been set for direct overseas availability through August -- the price converts to roughly £149 and AU$315.

It works with Apple's HomeKit platform, meaning you can ask Siri to lock and unlock your door. It's also compatible with the Works with Nest platform, the Logitech Harmony and Comcast's Xfinity Home.

This version works with the same Android and iPhone August app as before.

That way, you can lock and unlock your door either from the app, using voice control -- or manually.

The installation is extremely straightforward.

But first, you'll want to check that your existing deadbolt is compatible with the Smart Lock.

August updated the design of its second-gen Smart Lock, too, giving the turn dial a new grip.

It also features slightly rounded, door-knob-esque edges and a magnetic faceplate.
