A discussion of the design and features of the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS.
Lori Grunin
I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.
The SX1 IS is almost identical to the SX10, though it's mostly matte black plastic instead of reflective graphite and black. Like the SX10, it has the relatively widely separated stereo mics.
Canon provides a dedicated button to jump between 4:3 and 16:9. Unfortunately, this can get unncessarily confusing if you prefer to shoot 16:9 videos and 4:3 (full resolution) stills.
