The car formerly known as the GLK-Class is all grown up now, with its own performance-oriented AMG trim.
The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 packs a 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder engine, good for 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.
That's the exact same motor (with the exact same output) that you'll find in other C-Class AMG models, including the C43 Coupe and the SLC43 roadster. It's also the same motor in the E43, although it's got a bit more power there.
Whereas the GLC300 is available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive flavors, the GLC43 is AWD-only. Its 4Matic system even shares the same rear bias as the C43 Coupe -- 31 percent front, 69 percent rear.
In fact, we could have copied the C43 Coupe story, quickly replaced the names, and you'd have been none the wiser. The cars are just that similar.
AMG-specific bits abound, inside and out. It's got larger inlets and a "diamond" style grille up front, quad tailpipes out back, AMG-specific wheels and larger brakes.
Inside, you're privy to a sportier steering wheel, AMG-specific gauges and a slightly more aggressive design than in the standard GLC300.
