OnePlus 6: Bigger screen, glossy look and an optional notch

Unveiled at a London presser, the OnePlus 6 is the newest flagship from the Chinese-based phone company. The phone features a 6.28-inch screen, dual rear cameras and it can run Android P Beta. It's available online on May 22 and starts at $529, £469 and AU$702 converted.

The phone's 6.28-inch display has the biggest screen of any previous OnePlus phone. But its overall size remains about the same as the OnePlus 5T before it. That's because the 6 now has a notch.

The OnePlus 6's notch houses the in-ear speaker, front-facing camera and LED notification light.

The phone measures 6.13x2.97x0.31 inches (155.7x75.4x7.75 mm) and weighs 6.2 oz (177g). Overall, the phone feels sturdy in the hand, and comfortable to hold thanks to those thin edges.

The phone comes in three finishes. There is a glossy Mirror Black version (pictured here) and a matte Midnight Black.

The third is a white/rose gold model that will be available June 5.

With its minimalist take on Android 8.1 Oreo, OnePlus kept the software mostly the same. If you're interested in getting started with Google's upcoming OS update though, the phone is one of the first few phones that can run Android P Beta, along with the 

The phone's alert slider is now located on the right edge. The toggle enables you to set your phone on ring, vibrant and silent.

The OnePlus 6 has a USB Type-C port for charging and file transferring and a headphone jack.

OnePlus claims that the OnePlus 6 is more water resistant than past iterations. But because it's not IP-certified for water protection, that means you can't go ahead and dunk it underwater for any notable amount of time. Instead, the company claims the phone can survive a couple of drops here and there.

If you want, you can hide the bottom onscreen hotkeys (including the home button) completely and navigate the phone using iPhone X-like gestures. This includes swiping up and holding for recent apps.

The OnePlus 6 has a two rear cameras. The main one is 16-megapixels and the second is 20-megapixels exclusively for bokeh-style portrait photos.

The main camera (16-megapixel) sensor is 19 percent larger and has optical image stabilization (OIS). Both help when taking photos in darker conditions. Video has electronic stabilization to smooth out unwanted shakes caused by your hands.

OnePlus plans on rolling out a software update that'll also enable the front-facing camera to take portrait pictures with blurred backgrounds too.

Known primarily by Android enthusiasts, the OnePlus 6 is the company's seventh flagship. Though it is its most expensive phone to date, the phone still costs hundreds of dollars less than its high-end competitors.
