The G7 can focus as close as 0.4 inch, as long as you're zoomed out all the way. Although the shots have a little bit of that crunchy digital feel, they're still quite sharp.
I don't remember if I shot this at a high ISO speed--Canon frustratingly fails to include that spec in the JPEG file's EXIF information--or if it's the long zoom that does it, but many photos have that smeary paint effect. Though they printed OK at 11x15, the images look a little soft because of the noise.
No, this marble isn't warped. The PowerShot G7's lens shows some distortion at its widest. Though we expect it on wide-angle lenses, 35mm-equivalent isn't really that wide.
