Samsung QLED HDR monitors come in medium, large and massive

Its new line of curved gaming monitors tops out with a huge 49-inch model.

I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.

Four feet wide

The 49-inch display, which is 47.2 inches wide, is roughly the size of two typical 16:9 27-inch displays (23.5 inches wide) side-by-side. Sign me up!

Deep

Its profile is a little deeper than smaller displays.

Controls and power

Unlike the other displays in the line, the 49 incher has a power button underneath rather than on its back.

Glowy and round

Though it's not as functional as the typical display with square VESA-compatible mount, I think this one looks cooler.

Connectors

Because it doesn't rotate -- that would be a hoot -- it's harder to access the connectors on the 49-inch model than usual. It's a little disappointing that despite the extra room it doesn't add more USB connectors.

Speakers

Like the others, the 49er has two down-firing speakers.

32 inch

32 inches is actually quite big, but compared to the 49 it looks practically Lilliputian.

The underneath

The 32-inch pivots vertically. You're looking at the bottom.

The stand

I like this base design better than Samsung's usual solid disc.

Connections

All three displays have two USB 3 ports, audio outputs, an HDMI, and a DisplayPort connector. The 49-inch model adds a Mini DisplayPort

Aspect ratio

The 27-inch model (shown here) as well as the 32 have traditional 16:9 aspect ratios.

Jointed stand

The two smaller display have this very robotic looking articulated stand. The 49 can only move up and down, with the ability to tilt the display a bit.

Power

The two smaller monitors have a power button on the back right.
