This countertop gadget wants to replace your KitchenAid and Vitamix

I made the dough for this brioche using the knead setting on the Thermomix.

I adapted a recipe for chocolate chip cookies for the Thermomix by following a cookie recipe in the machine's cookbook. Other than some pulverized chips, the cookies tasted great.

The Thermomix TM5 just became available in the US in September. A German company called Vorwerk has produced the countertop multicooker for more than 40 years.

You can save recipes from the cookbook chip and access them quickly on the touchscreen.

The handles on the Thermomix's base lock the mixing bowl's lid into place when in use.

The cookbook chip attaches to the side of the Thermomix with a magnet. You can access the recipes and follow them step by step on the machine's touchscreen control panel.

You have to contact a Thermomix consultant if you want to order the cooker, and they'll provide an at-home or online demo of the machine.

The home screen is where you set the blend time, cooking temperature and blend speed.

The Thermomix comes with a hardback cookbook and a chip that contains all of the cookbook's recipes.

The steaming dish sits on top of the Thermomix's mixing bowl. Water heats in the bowl, which steams the contents of the dish above.

The Thermomix also comes with accessories for steaming food.

The Thermomix can also handle cold foods, like this chocolate ice cream.
