The WD TV Play is one the best players to buy if you want a combination of streaming services and home networking.
Ty Pendlebury
TV and home video editor Ty Pendlebury joined CNET Australia in 2006, and moved to New York City to be a part of CNET in 2011. He tests, reviews and writes about the latest TVs and audio equipment. When he's not playing Call of Duty he's eating whatever cuisine he can get his hands on. He has a cat named after one of the best TVs ever made.
I have held a personal fondness for WD TV boxes since the release of the original streamer in late 2008. Each model has improved markedly on the last and the newest WD TV Play is the best of the bunch.
The interface is clean, setup is a breeze, and playback during our testing was glitch-free. If you are looking for a streamer that offers the best mix of cloud streaming and DLNA/home network playback, and you're not tied to the Apple ecosystem, then this is the best player for the money.
