Back in August we told you about the pending arrival Samsung's high-end fitness the tracker, the Gear Fit 2 Pro. Well, just a week before Apple's new Watch Series 3 hits stores, the Gear Fit 2 Pro is now available for $200, £209 and AU$329.

Designed to compete with Garmin and Fitbit's best trackers with a deeper feature set and close to smartwatch-like functions, the Gear Fit 2 Pro notably adds 5 ATM swim-ready water resistance, onboard GPS and offline music storage for Spotify.

That Spotify integration, also available on Samsung's larger Gear Sport smartwatch, is a first-of-its-kind feature and something of a coup for Samsung: It allows a Spotify Premium subscriber to transfer playlists directly to the Gear Fit 2 Pro and stream Spotify tracks to a pair of Bluetooth headphones without having a phone in the mix. (The Apple Watch only offers this feature to Apple Music subscribers).

Those following Samsung's earlier fitness tracking products may remember that the Samsung Gear Fit 2 arrived a year ago and nearly won us over with a sharp design and loads of features. It had drawbacks, though: You couldn't shower or swim with it. The totally waterproof Gear Fit 2 Pro eliminates those issues, but it will cost you a little more than the Gear Fit 2, which retails for $180 but will presumably drop in price.

You can drop it in your water glass now, and leave it there (or go for a swim).

Samsung promises improved heart rate and fitness tracking, which is a good thing since we were disappointed last time. The Fit 2 Pro can measure heart rate every second but defaults to once every 10 minutes, while fitness tracking adds Auto Pause during workouts.

We'll have full review of the Gear Fit 2 Pro in the coming weeks after we thoroughly test it.
