Whether you want to trade in your MacBook for a new model or check compatibility with other products, you'll need to find out what model MacBook you own.

Since the , Pro and "regular" MacBook names don't change when they're updated, uses the year -- and time of year -- a MacBook is released as the model. It looks something like "MacBook Air (13-inch, mid-2014)."

Here's how to find your MacBook's model:

  • On your MacBook, go to the Apple menu (upper-left corner) > About this Mac.
  • In the window that pops up, you'll see a serial number. Highlight it and copy it.
  • Head to Apple's Check Coverage page and paste the serial number. Hit Continue, and you'll see the model, along with details about what support services are still covered.
