The PlayStation Network went down Monday night into early Tuesday morning in a major outage that lasted about eight hours. The outage affected all parts of the PlayStation Network, keeping gamers across all PlayStation console platforms from playing their games online, accessing account information and features including the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Video.Â
On Tuesday, the PlayStation Network status page was still showing a red dot, indicating that players may be experiencing issues, under "Gaming and Social." A message there read, "You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
This warning was still showing up Tuesday morning.
Sony PlayStation's official blog, X page and even the company's AskPlayStation support account made no mention of the outage. It's unclear what the cause of the outage was or if subscribers will receive any compensation for the time the service was unavailable.
A representative for Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In 2011 and the 2014 holiday season, Sony was hit with major PlayStation Network outages. In both cases, the cause was reportedly deliberate attacks.
On Monday, the same day the outage began, Sony acknowledged that an update bug was causing PlayStation 5 games to display different information on their title home screens.
