Kamala Harris has chosen her running mate in her bid to be elected president of the United States in November. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is Harris' vice president pick, she confirmed on Tuesday morning.

"I am proud to announce that I've asked Tim Walz to be my running mate," said Harris on X. "As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team."

Harris, who is taking a run at the presidency following President Joe Biden ending his reelection bid in July, will hold a campaign rally tonight in Philadelphia alongside Walz.

Walz became governor of Minnesota in January 2019, after being a member of the US House of Representatives for 12 years prior. He's a retired teacher and a 24-year veteran of the National Guard.

"It is the honor of a lifetime to join Kamala Harris in this campaign," Walz said on X. "I'm all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what's possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school."

Emissions and EVs could be spotlighted under Walz as VP; he pushed through stricter vehicle emissions standards for Minnesota in a bid for more electric cars and hybrid vehicles, with his clean car standards established in 2021.

Walz has emphasized the importance of government investment in technology. He could also continue the push to make deepfakes illegal -- Walz last year signed into Minnesota law a deepfake bill that makes it a criminal offense to disseminate non-consensual deepfake images.

On the finance side, Walz has signed into law state loan forgiveness programs and has worked on increased funding for education
