Firefox is inviting users to test out the free VPN feature, which would be similar to the built-in VPNs from Opera, Microsoft Edge and others.

A beta feature for Firefox currently being tested could bring free, basic VPN functionality to the browser.

Mozilla is in the process of testing a free, in-browser VPN service for Firefox users.

A beta experiment announcement for the feature was posted back in June on Mozilla Connect. Several sites are now reporting that some Firefox users are being invited to test out the VPN and provide feedback.

The VPN feature wouldn't be the first in-browser virtual private network. Opera has offered such a feature for almost a decade, and Microsoft added it to its Edge browser.

Five years ago, Mozilla introduced a paid service, Mozilla VPN, at $10 a month or $5 a month with an annual subscription.

The free version would work as a switch that could be toggled in the toolbar.

According to the Mozilla Connect post, "Our long-term vision is ambitious: to build the best VPN-integrated browser on the market."
