Different emoji showing Sasquatch, orca, a ballet dancer and more
Emojipedia

On Thursday, Unicode, the nonprofit organization responsible for recommending new emoji, announced nine new emoji designs you might see late next year as part of Unicode 17.0. Unicode provided sample designs for all nine proposed emoji, but these aren't the final designs.

Some of the proposed emoji include a Sasquatch looking creature, an orca whale and a treasure chest full of gold. Here are the proposed names for the nine possible emoji:

  • A distorted face, the sample design was taken from the Emoji Kitchen.
  • A "fight cloud" symbol, like in cartoons and comic books.
  • A ballet dancer, shown with the dark skin tone modifier.
  • An apple core.
  • An orca, also known as a "killer whale."
  • A "hairy creature" inspired by "Big Foot"-like cryptids.
  • A trombone.
  • A landslide.
  • A treasure chest.

According to Emojipedia, the Unicode Emoji Committee proposed 164 emoji, and the remaining proposed emoji are all skin tone sequences for the people with people with bunny ears (👯) and people wrestling (🤼) emoji.

The proposed skin tone support for these emoji would include single skin tones for both people in the emoji design, as well as multiple skin tone support -- each person is a different skin tone.

However, Unicode didn't propose man and woman sex variations of these emoji.

According to Emojipedia, Unicode will approve new emoji in September 2025, and there will be other emoji considerations made before then. That means Unicode might not release these emoji, or it could add more proposed emoji.
