Ever wished for smooth, on-point song transitions in your music streaming playlists customized to your liking? Spotify is rolling out a new beta feature for Premium subscribers globally that lets you add tailor-made transitions between songs, the company shared Tuesday.

You can opt to play DJ -- and skip the AI version -- and curate how songs flow on an existing playlist or a new one. By clicking the Mix button, you can adjust the EQ, volume, fade and other effects. If you're looking to collaborate, you can tag a friend or family member who is also a Premium user to help with the special transitions. Don't worry if you don't see the Mix function on your account yet. Spotify says it's in the early stages of deploying the new feature and that subscribers should continue to update the app.

How to add transitions and mix your Spotify playlist

To get started, select a playlist you want to add transitions to or build a new one. As you set up your custom mixes, Spotify suggests blending tracks from the same or similar genres and tempos. The app will also provide the Camelot key and BPM data for each song to make it easier for you to blend your mix.

  • Within the playlist, click the Mix button.
  • Either select Auto to let the app adjust the mix for you or hit Custom to customize it yourself.
  • Spotify allows you to choose a predefined transition effect like Fade, Rise or Blend to edit/enable transitions like a crossfade.
  • Tweak and test out the volume, EQ or low pass filter to achieve the sound you want.

Here's how to adjust the volume and EQ functions on your mix.

  • After customizing your playlist transitions, click Save to listen. You can also share it or send it to a collaborator.
  • Change your mind? You can toggle the feature on and off by tapping the Mix button.

Once you wrap it up, remember to add your own cover art to the playlist with your own photos, color choices, effects or Spotify sticker images.Â
