I started my career with CNET all the way back in 2005, when the (original) Motorola Razrs were all the rage. Since then, I've written about everything from consumer electronics to internet culture for outlets like CNET, Engadget and Yahoo. Outside of work, I'm a big fan of baseball, board games, tabletop RPGs and improv comedy.

Watch this: LG Optimus 2X

If there's one word to describe the LG Optimus 2X, it would be "fast." Even though I knew it has a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, I wasn't expecting the hands-on experience to be that speedy. Indeed, I was able to simply fly through the different screens and applications, launching apps and switching tasks in the blink of an eye. While I didn't have time to sit through a video game, LG claims the device makes for a very responsive gaming experience as well.

The display is also really easy on the eyes. Measuring 4 inches diagonally, it has 16 million colors and a WVGA resolution of 480x800. The overall phone feels smooth and lightweight--it measures 4.95 inches long by 2.5 inches wide by less than half an inch thick and weighs in at around 4.9 ounces. Other features include Wi-Fi with portable hot-spot capability, full HD video playback and recording, a gyro sensor, DLNA support, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and HDMI mirroring. It ships with Android 2.2, but you can bet it'll upgradeable to 2.3.

Even though it supports quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS, don't expect the Optimus 2X on U.S. shores any time soon. The Optimus 2X is a global-release phone, which means our friends in Asia and Europe will get a look at it first. We don't know if it'll arrive in the U.S., and even if it does, we're not sure if it'll have a carrier. Pricing and availability are still unknown.
