InfiniBand support in latest Linux

Linus Torvalds accepts support for the InfiniBand high-speed networking technology into the latest version of the Linux kernel.

Linux leader Linus Torvalds on Saturday accepted support for the InfiniBand high-speed networking technology into the latest version of the Linux kernel, the core software at the heart of the open-source operating system. to provide unified, open-source support for the technology and submitted their work in the form of 18 patches on Jan. 12. The work is expected to make it easier to create Linux supercomputers, a reason that the Energy Department funded the OpenIB work.

OpenIB developers now will move to higher-level software support for the technology, the alliance said in a Wednesday statement. The group is holding a workshop Feb. 6 through 9 in Sonoma, Calif.
