Touching the LG Rumor Touch

We investigate the touch-screen version of the LG Rumor line of phones, the LG Rumor Touch. It has so many new features that it looks nothing like its predecessors.

I started my career with CNET all the way back in 2005, when the (original) Motorola Razrs were all the rage. Since then, I've written about everything from consumer electronics to internet culture for outlets like CNET, Engadget and Yahoo. Outside of work, I'm a big fan of baseball, board games, tabletop RPGs and improv comedy.

LAS VEGAS--After we got a good look at the LG Lotus Elite, we turned our attention to the LG Rumor Touch, the other phone LG announced at CES.

Watch this: LG Rumor Touch

The Rumor Touch has very little in common with the other Rumor handsets--the previous Rumor phones were rather basic and didn't even have 3G. As the name suggests, the Rumor Touch now has a 3-inch WQVGA touch-screen display in addition to a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a design reminiscent of the LG Xenon.

In our few minutes playing with the phone, we have to admit that the touch screen interface didn't wow us. In fact, we thought it looked rather dull. You can customize it in a way by adding and deleting application shortcuts to the list, but that's nothing new. The one interesting part of the interface is a "Hello UI" that lets you sort your favorite contacts into separate pages. Now, that's just our first impression; we'll give it a proper rundown once we get a review unit.

Aside from that, we do like that the LG Rumor Touch now has a 2.0-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. 0, access to Sprint broadband services like Sprint TV and Sprint Music, GPS with Sprint Navigation, a microSD card slot, and it has quick access to social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

The blue model you see here will be available in the first quarter of the year, with other colors coming later. Price and exact availability is yet to be determined.
